Dude, This Thing Is Just Getting Started |
GeeBus, is it possible that Armando is wrong again, as usual? He really needs to go back to strictly law blogging and leave the purely political analysis to someone who knows WTF they're talking about.
Believing McCain has more or less jumped the shark with his reverse swift boat maneuver on Wes Clark and Jim Webb, here's the latest wisdom from on High Atop the Big Tent, believing the faux outrage vis-a-vis "Ace" McCain's tendency to crash jets being a qualifier for the White House backfired, or at least it will.
The more I think about it, the more I think McCain may have lost all chance to win the election this week.Me, I tend to be a bit more inquisitive before making pronouncements based on no more evidence than what emerges from my rectum, pointing at it and saying, "Eureka, a cure for cancer!" For instance, those who read tea leaves would be well advised to check out exactly what significance McCain's new campaign manager, a veteran smear merchant from the Rove/Atwater/Machiavelli school of goonery, might have on the tone of the campaign.

The Editors Nails The Zeitgeist |
I know I sound like a broken record, but it would be nice if someone would at least acknowledge that the Cold War is over, the Soviet Union is kaput, and so the whole national security justification for secret FISA courts and NSA wiretaps actually no longer exists. I’m open to arguments that current technologies, etc., means that the government needs expanded surveillance powers - it’s not my preference, but I don’t think I’m qualified to propose policy here. But it would be so nice if someone could relate it to the real world of the present day, rather than trying to make me believe that bearded religious nutters living in caves are more cunning and sophisticated than the Soviet Union. (Yes, the 9/11 hijackers did manage to escape the detection of the Bush administration. So did a class 5 hurricane.)

Acceptance |
Hillary Clinton has endorsed and thrown her full support behind Barack Obama. Howard Wolfson and Rep. Charlie Rangel on "Face the Nation" spoke perfectly about where Clinton supporters are today. We still believe in Hillary Clinton wholeheartedly. As I’ve said many times, any time, anywhere, any year, Hillary, I’ll be there for you again. But now we have another job to do, which is to defeat John McCain. Hillary knows this all too well.

I Have So Had It With This Guy |
I am amazed at the view expressed by Obama supporters that unifying the Democratic Party is a problem for Hillary Clinton. Like me, they all expect Barack Obama to be the nominee, but they insist that the problem of unifying the Democratic Party belongs to Hillary Clinton. This is an incredibly obtuse view. Obama is going to be the candidate who will win or lose in November. It will be HIS job to unify the Party.Dude, YOU are the problem, and people like you. You don't listen to shit, and with your shrill blog closed to opposing views, you never will.

Why I Can't Wait Until Hillary Concedes |
Because I'd like to be able to read good stuff from bloggers like Taylor Marsh and the folks at Corrente Wire again without feeling like I'm reading a Terry McAuliff version of pre-epiphany Scott-Bot McClellertron's rantings.
Sadly, although it took a bombshell of a story like Scott McClellan's mea culpa to break through the all-Hillary, all-the-time programing at some of the Clintonista blogs, there still is no sign of intelligent life at the Talk Left Kool-Aide stand. It's a Hillary 527 in everything but the paperwork.

Yet Another Reason ... |
... the suggestion that John Edwards would be even considered for Attorney General is horrifying. I really can't think of any mainstream political figure more inappropriate for that job than Edwards.

Sweet Jesus I Hate Bob Novak |
"Close-in supporters of Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign are convinced he never will offer the vice presidential nomination to Sen. Hillary Clinton for one overriding reason: Michelle Obama."
"My wife does not talk to Bob Novak on a regular basis," Obama told the reporters gathered around him, who included The Times' Robin Abcarian.
... petty nonsense ... Obama will lose in November ... [blah, blah ... blah] ... juvenile ... heartily disgusted ...

Chris Bowers Is Back In Form |
I still think that Democrats should accept Lieberman's claim that he was kicked out of the Democratic Party because of his support for endless war in Iraq. While it is an absurd claim, in terms of party image it is actually vastly superior to pointing out the obvious errors in Lieberman's argument. For a very long time, one of the most damaging national images associated with the Democratic Party is that we don't stand for anything. If we claim that yes, we kicked Lieberman out of the party because he supported Bush and McCain's endless war in Iraq, then it becomes pretty darn difficult to argue Democrats don't stand for anything. Such a claim makes us appear to hold a hard line on a deeply unpopular war, an image of principle and toughness on the defining issue of the decade.Drink at the soothing waters of progressive reason as you prep for ignoring tonight's debate by reading both of his posts linked above.
Just as the Jeremiah Wright episode counter-intuitively helped Obama by quashing the "Obama is a Muslim meme," and also be providing an opening for Obama to make a groundbreaking speech on race in America, Lieberman can counter-intuitively help Democrats by claiming that he was kicked out of the part over his support for war in Iraq. Lieberman's claim might not be true, but it does make Democrats look tough and principled on a major issue. We should embrace Lieberman's charge whenever he makes it over the next several months, and follow it up by stripping his committee seat once we don't need him in the next Senate. This could be a defining moment for Democrats, and improve our image for a long time to come.
