What it's most like is actually 1937, when FDR was persuaded to pull back when he shouldn't.
But it is true that you could take speeches that Herbert Hoover gave in 1932 and speeches that Barack Obama has given in 2011 and they look awfully similar. It's very depressing.
Because I want Obama to succeed, I think he's a good man, but somehow he's turned into the second coming of Herbert Hoover.
