I'm glad to see any of the candidates come down here and talk about what is left to be done in south Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast. Good for Edwards.

Now about that TV ad...

I don't think sending the same bill to the president again and again until he signs it is going to work.

For one thing, it sounds like the textbook definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different outcome. Didn't we used to say the same thing about Bush...?

But let's say we try it. The last time, it passed Congress by a sum total of about 15 votes combined in both houses. And about one-third of those were Republicans.

Do you really think we'll get more votes this time? Because if we don't, we lose, big time.

I think the smartest thing is to pull the deadlines but keep the benchmarks, and push hard on vet benefits and troop readiness standards. Oh yeah, and cut the pork. If we lose votes over THAT then they weren't worth having in the first place.

We have to pass something that'll move us toward the exit -- even if it is 3 inches at a time.
